Greene County Extension and Outreach is among 12 regional Iowa nonprofit organizations to receive funds from the Alliant Energy Foundation in the second of the two 2016 giving cycles.
Extension will receive $1,500 for Full STEAM Ahead, a variety of experiences for youngsters in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
According to Sue Richardson, one of the authors of the grant, Extension is again offering the robotics, crime scene investigation and Kids in the Kitchen that were done last summer, but they’ll be scheduled throughout the year to make them accessible to more students. A fourth program will focus on healthy recreational habits.
Funding for the program is also coming from a DCAT grant.
The goal of the programs is to increase interest in STEAM related fields.
